12 injured as van overturns

LAHORE

At least 12 people were injured when a speeding passenger van overturned in the Sherakot area on Sunday.Police said that the vehicle overturned due to speeding. As a result of which, at least 12 passengers, including the van driver, suffered injuries. The injured were removed to hospital where the condition of two victims was stated to be precarious.

killed: A bike rider was killed by a speeding car at G Block, DHA, on Sunday.

Victim Suleman was on his way on a bike when a rashly-driven car hit him on Airport Road, resulting into his instant death. The car driver fled.

CCPO: The capital city police officer (CCPO) has said that the Lahore police are utilising all available resources to protect the life and property of citizens and maintain law and order.

He claimed that if police and public cooperate with each other, terrorists could never attack them. He said that if citizens had details of the people living in their streets or neighbourhoods, facilitator of any terrorist group could never stay in their surroundings.

PHP: Punjab Highway Patrol (PHP) claimed to have arrested 65 criminals, including 21 proclaimed offenders (POs).

PHP teams arrested 21 POs and 43 other criminals. The teams recovered 923 litre liquor, 1,755 grams charas, five pistols, four rifles from the possession of the arrested persons. PHP arrested a person, Mursalin and recovered explosive material from his possession.

PHP also reunited five children; M Riaz, Fatima, M Azam, Abdul Qayyum and M Akram, with their parents.

Fire: Various goods, including household items, were reduced to ashes in fire incidents in different parts of the City on Sunday.

Fires broke out in a plastic factory at Timber Market, in a cold storage at Alia Town Morcha Stop, Bund Road and in a house at Ghoray Shah Chowk, Shahdara Town. The cause of the fires was stated to be short-circuits. Firefighters extinguished the fires after hectic efforts. No casualty was reported.

Farewell: The city investigation SP gave away a shield to a sub-inspector on his retirement here on Sunday.

A farewell function was held in the honour of retired Sub-Inspector Muhammad Lateef of Homocide Unit Shahdara. The SP lauded the services of the retired officer.
