Unsafe buses
The University of Sindh is the oldest and one of the leading universities of Sindh. More than thirty five thousands students are enrolled in the university. Many students use the bus service system provided by the university. The charges of the transport facility are taken annually along with admission fees. However, for many years now, the university’s transport administration has been badly failed to facilitate students. A couple of recent accidents has revealed the poor system of the transport system in which two different shuttle buses crushed the students – a boy and a girl – to death.
The authorities may argue that the accident could have been avoided had the students been careful, but being a regular commuter of these buses I know how recklessly these buses are driven. What else can be expected when a bus having a capacity of 4000 people carries 10,000 students at a time? And then the uncooperative and rude behaviour of bus drivers is more troublesome for students. It is not the carelessness of students that leads to accidents, but the dysfunctional and corrupt transport system that is taking lives of the students every other day.
