Dr Chishti elected as coordinator of URI Islamabad

Universal Interfaith Peace Mission (UIPM) Chairman Allama Dr GR Chishti has been elected as coordinator of United Religions Initiative (URI), Islamabad Chapter, says a press release.

He was elected as URI Coordinator for Islamabad chapter at a two-day National Conference titled ‘UN Sustainable Development Goals’ organised by the United Religions Initiative held at Peace Centre, Lahore from February 17-18, 2017, which was attended by 50 representatives of the same number of circles of URI from around the country.

URI Asia Coordinator Father James Chanan presided over the ceremony. All 50 coordinators presented their reports in the conference. Father James Chanan on the occasion deliberated upon UN Sustainable Development Goals in detail.

During the meeting name for Allama Dr GR Chishti for Coordinator of URI Multi CC Islamabad was proposed by Ms Saeeda Yasmin, which was seconded by Saeed u Zaman Siddiqui. Saeeda Yasmin eulogised the services of Dr Chishti and expressed the need of appointing him as coordinator of URI Islamabad chapter hoping his services will further bolster the image and working of URI. Dr Chishti was unanimously elected as coordinator of URI, Islamabad chapter and Father James Chanan formally made the announcement during the conference.

Dr Chishti who was attending the conference as coordinator of URI Karachi spoke about his appearance in the conference as part of World Interfaith Harmony Week of the United Nations celebrations of his organisation UIPM. He shed light on importance of ‘Common Word Movement’ and ‘Amman Message’. He also told the audience that WIHW celebrated by United Nations every year in first week of February is fruit of both ‘Common Word Movement’ and ‘Amman Message’.
