Seminar on ‘Social Impacts of Food Adulteration: The Way Forward’ held

For the public awareness, National Council of Social Welfare organised a seminar on ‘Social Impacts of Food Adulteration: The Way Forward,’ here on Wednesday, says a press release
Dr. Nadeem Shafiq Malik, chairman, National Council of Social Welfare chaired the seminar while Rai Nasir Ali, Economic Consultant at Ministry of Food Security and Research, was the chief guest.
Representatives of NGOs, civil society, students and officials of CA&DD, attended the seminar. In his presidential address Dr. Nadeem Shafiq Malik, Chairman, NCSW, said that adulteration in food is a national problem. Food adulterers are playing with our health as well as with our future generations. They are the enemies of the humanity and such culprits should be punished severely. We should boycott them socially their activities and in order to eradicate this curse from the society. The present government is making great efforts, on every level, to put an end to this curse. But as responsible citizens, it is our collective responsibility to end adultery as well as bring positive change in the society. Our religion also condemns adultery in food items. WHO has focused special attention to eradicate this problem on an international level and has asked the all Governments authorities to take special steps for its check. He regretted that Pakistan is now facing food adulteration problem at every level as it is done in i.e. milk, ghee, oil and in medicines.
The other speakers Rai Nasir Ali, Economic Consultant and Shaista Bano, Director General Cartel and Trade Abuses, Competition Commission of Pakistan, Islamabad, said that adultery in food is a crime which cannot be forgiven as they play with the life of human beings. It is a responsibility of provinces, after 18th amendment in the constitution of Pakistan that they have to act strictly on the laws which made for checking that. On food adulteration grievances, Consumer Protection Law has also been protect the rights of consumers. Consumers can put grievances and initiate action against adultery.
