Pak-US partnership in vocational sector discussed
Islamabad: To promote linkages and partnership in technical and vocational sector between Pakistan and the US, Professor Jeffery Milligan of the Florida State University called on National Vocational and Technical Training Commission Executive Director Zulfiqar Ahmad Cheema at the NAVTTC headquarters on Tuesday.
Zulfiqar Cheema briefed the visitor about the milestones achieved by the National Vocational and Technical Training Commission in bringing a paradigm shift in the TVET delivery in Pakistan.
In this meeting, important steps including introduction of modern trends and methods in the TVET sector, up-gradation of curriculum, promotion of linkages with the community colleges of America, the instructors’ training, and start of an exchange programme in cooperation with USEF were discussed.
Professor Milligan commended the role of the National Vocational and Technical Training Commission and assured it of the provision of modern training to instructors and teachers to boost the TVET sector of Pakistan.
The two sides agreed that as a pilot project, 50 community colleges would be opened in Pakistan along the lines of the US community college system.
Established in December 2005, the National Vocational and Technical Training Commission is an apex body at national level to regulate, facilitate and provide policy direction in vocational and technical training in the country. It is establishing and promoting linkages among various stakeholders existing at national as well as international level.
