DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Armed men gunned down an assistant sub-inspector and his two brothers and a passer-by in Mohallah Hayatkhel in the limits of City Police Station here on Wednesday, official sources said.
The sources said that two gunmen riding a motorcycle arrived at Mohallah Hayatkhel in the evening and opened fire and killed Assistant Sub-Inspector Qaiser Jehan and his brothers Khurram Jehan and Ansar Jehan. A passer-by Alqab was also killed in the attack, the sources said.
It was learnt that the slain cop was posted as the in-charge of a Counter-Terrorism Unit in Peshawar and had come home on leave.District Police Officer (DPO) Sadiq Baloch told The News that two unidentified persons came to the street on motorcycle and opened fire on the cop and his brothers and friend.
“According to the closed-circuit camera, the accused were riding 125CC bike of black colour,” he said, adding, they killed the four persons and escaped within 22 seconds.He said that after the incident the police launched search operation in the area and blocked all the exit routes as the motorcycle and the clothes the accused were wearing could be identified to some extent.
He said that the police and intelligence agencies personnel were making efforts for the arrest of the accused by tracking their mobile phone calls.To a question, he said the accused opened fire with 9mm guns.To another question, he said that it was a target-killing incident.Some television channels had earlier reported that the accused had lobbed a hand-grenade into the house of the police officer.
