Water supply from Khanpur to capital suspended for repairs
Islamabad: The water supply to the federal capital from Khanpur would remain suspended today (Thursday) for repair of major leakages in the main pipeline coming from the reservoir. An official of the Municipal Corporation of Islamabad (MCI) told ‘The News’ on Wednesday that a huge quantity of water equal to one day supply to a sector was going missing unnoticed for the last several months. He said that leakages were detected in Sector E-10 from the main pipeline of 36 inches radius was passing. “Heavy machinery like an excavator have reached site of the pipeline to start the repair work,” he said. The official said it would take 10 to 12 hours to complete the maintenance work adding that water supply to Sector G-10 would improve from Friday. However, the federal capital was not receiving full supply of water from Khanpur and they also have to store water for the summer season. “We are facing severe shortage of water in the area and water is provided after a gap of three days,” Amjad, a resident of Sector G-10/1, said.
