PTI may launch fresh mass contact drive
ISLAMABAD: PTI Chairman Imran Khan Saturday hinted at launching a mass contact drive in next few days to rally more support with regards to the PanamaLeaks case in the SC.
Another documentary is to be released shortly about the issue, mainly focusing on contradictory statements of the prime minister and his children regarding their offshore assets; the copies of this documentary will be shared with the provincial regional and even district level party leadership.
A source privy to a media strategy, Imran chaired, told The News that another option currently being discussed in the PTI leadership was to consider impeachment of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and in this context, reach out to other parties, even including Pakistan People’s Party.
He pointed out that in the given situation, PPP leadership needed to review its strategy towards the government afresh and said their meeting on December 27 would be extremely important.
“Though in the number game, combined opposition may not be in a position to exploit this option but its political ramifications will be paramount significance, provided, we finally decide to push for it and seek other parties’ cooperation,” he contended.
The PTI plans to hold public meetings, corner meetings and increased interaction with media in coming days. “Imran has already declared that he would not let the nation forget Panama issue and during this lull period, we will not sit idle,” he maintained.
Imran said during the meeting that they had achieved moral victory against the prime minister and his family after his (PM) lawyer conceded before the apex court that what the prime minister said on the floor of the National Assembly was just a political statement.
“It clearly shows that the prime minister had lied to the nation while standing on the floor of the assembly and this is not at all a small thing to be ignored,” another PTI source quoted Imran as telling the meeting. The party chairman reiterated that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had lost moral justification to continue as head of the government after having totally failed to prove money trail of how London apartments were purchased.
The meeting noted with satisfaction that the PTI lawyers team was optimistic about positive outcome of the Panama case, as the public opinion had already turned against the government. The party will be holding a series of meetings in Banigala in coming days with regards to its course of action in next days before the Supreme Court again takes up the Panama case in January.
