Unhygienic ice cream, butter

LAHORE

Provincial Minister for Food Bilal Yasin on Wednesday raided a factory situated on Kala Khatai Road near Shahdara which was manufacturing substandard and unhygienic ice cream, desi ghee and butter.

The minister ordered the staff concerned to seal the factory take into possession 25,000 kilogram substandard food items amounting to Rs 2.5 crore. Bilal Yasin called the SHO concerned and ordered him to register an FIR against the factory owner and arrest 16 people.

The minister reprimanded the factory management and owner on the unhygienic conditions, presence of flies, usage of chemical and unhygienic food colours. He said that all the staff working in these factories were without any food standard training. He ordered the food inspector concerned to take all the manufactured and raw material into possession and seal the factory.  While talking to the media, he said that unhygienic ice cream and desi ghee were prepared in the factory and supplied to the whole city. He said that all the food manufacturing factories working in Punjab would ensure their registration with Food Department. He said that illegal factories and those working on the license of shops would be closed soon.

He said that those playing with the lives and health of the public would be dealt with an iron hand. He said that food manufacturing factories should implement food safety standards in letter and spirit.
