Rawalpindi: The district administration has decided to write warning letters to 64 schools to improve their security arrangements in line with the directives of the Punjab government otherwise these would not be allowed to operate anymore.

District Coordination Officer (DCO) Rawalpindi Talat Mehmood Gondal during a high-level meeting reviewed the reports presented by the intelligence agencies in which 64 schools — 29 A Plus and 45 A category — are vulnerable to terrorist threats due to unsatisfactory security arrangements.

It has also been decided that owners of those private schools that would continue to operate despite non-implementation of security measures would face cases because no one would be allowed to make students vulnerable to the terrorist acts.

Total number of government schools in Rawalpindi are 1,961 whereas private are three to four thousands and all of them were directed to follow the directives issued by the provincial government to ensure fool-proof security for the students.

The DCO Rawalpindi reiterated that the schools must follow the directives including installation of CCTV cameras, construction of high concrete walls, compilation of record of drivers and conductors of pick-and-drop services, hiring of security guards and security checking of vehicles before their entry into the premises.
