An accountability court (AC) on Monday fixed December 13 for the hearing of a corruption reference against two police officials.

The cops involved are the then Additional IG Logistics, Tanveer Ahmed, and another officer, Syed Fida Hussain, and they face charges of having misappropriated billions of rupees under fuel allocation and causing losses to the national exchequer.

Both the accused are out on bail granted by the Sindh High Court (SHC). At yesterday’s hearing, the court was informed that the case against Tanveer Ahmed was pending with the SHC so the hearing should be adjourned.

Another application was moved on behalf of Tanveer Ahmed that sought acquittal of the accused on the grounds that no proofs were presented against him.

KDA land grabbers

An accountability court issued non-bailable warrants of arrest against Shakir alias Shakir Langrra, Arif Khan and other men accused of land grabbing through the so-called ‘China Cutting’ method.

Around 15 former officers of Karachi Development Authority (KDA) are also being tried in the case and the next hearing is scheduled for December 14.

An officer of additional director level, Muhammad Nasir Sheikh, is under detention in the case.

The prosecution alleges that the accused have caused losses of more than Rs16 million to the national exchequer by selling lands illegally. All the accused are described as activists of a political party.
