PPP can’t be revived in Punjab by holding foundation day, says Tareen

ISLAMABAD: Secretary General Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Jehangir Tareen on Saturday said that by holding a three-day foundation day, the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) could not be revived in the Punjab and claimed that there would be a real fight between the PTI and PML-N in the next general elections.

Talking to media persons here, he was of the firm view that it would be impossible for the PPP to make a comeback in the Punjab, having already gone missing from the largest province for the last three years.

The PTI secretary general announced to open a new front against the Sharifs by filing next week a writ petition in the Lahore High Court (LHC) against Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif for his alleged corruption.

He claimed that they had two-three major corruption proof against the chief minister, seeking his disqualification; hence the PTI is eyeing to strike Shahbaz, as it continues to pursue a case against Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his children in the Supreme Court.

Tareen noted that Babar Awan, who is a PPP senator, would be the PTI’s lawyer with regard to the case to be filed in the LHC against Shahbaz Sharif.

He said the name of Shahbaz should be changed many times, as he had lied so many times. “In the court of masses, the Sharif brothers have already been proven guilty,” he maintained. He said they had proved Nawaz children had started their business in 2001.

Referring to the Panama Papers case in the Supreme Court, the PTI secretary general claimed that the story of the prime minister had already been destroyed with documentary evidence and nothing had been left behind with regards to his stance.

He pointed out that there had been glaring contradictions in the story unfolded by the prime minister about his offshore assets.

Replying to questions, Tareen said that the next general election depended on the hearing of the Panama case in the apex court and added, apparently, the election season had already set in.

Meanwhile, the PTI is most likely to file another petition in the Supreme Court next week against the Dawn Newsleak. The party intends the formation a commission to investigate the matter.

Several days back, PTI’s former Central Information Secretary Naeemul Haq had revealed his party’s decision to knock at the doors of the apex court vis-a-vis the Newsleak. However, no headway could be made hitherto in this direction amid whispers of difference of opinion whether or not to take this initiative at this juncture.
