PESHAWAR: A meeting of regional police officers took stock of the crime and law and order situation across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

A Regional Police Officers (RPOs) Conference was held at the Central Police Office (CPO), presided over by Inspector General of Police Nasir Khan Durrani. Additional IGPs Elite, Headquarters, CTD and all Regional Police Officers participated in the event. During the meeting, it was observed that ratio of murders showed a slight increase in the province in comparison to previous years.

The participants discussed the issue in detail. The primary reason of murder was identified as the old blood feuds. Therefore, it was decided that data of all blood feuds be collected through Public Liaison Council (PLC) members.

In the first phase, preventive measures should be taken against the parties to avoid bloodshed while in the 2nd phase the Dispute Resolution Council (DRC) members should be involved to help resolve the feud.

The participants expressed satisfaction at the decreasing incidents of terrorism, extortion and kidnapping for ransom. The IGP has directed to enhance search and strike operations, snap checking and intelligence-based operations in the known militant-infested areas.

The public, however, has expressed concern over insult of the general public and bothering innocent citizens during search operations and snap checking. The authorities have been urged to find a better alternative to the practice.
