The Karachi Motorway Police on Wednesday seized a sizable quantity of ‘gutka’ that was being smuggled into the city.
A spokesman said that a patrolling team in the Beat-33 area on Super Highway had signalled a car, bearing registration no AGN-316 and with all windows tinted, to stop for a routine check.
However, the car’s driver ignored the signal and attempted to speed away. The patrol team gave chase and managed to overtake and stop the vehicle.
A search led to the recovery of hundreds of gutka packets of various brands – all labelled as made in India – were found.
The recovered gutka, it was estimated, was worth more than Rs1.6 million. The car driver, identified as Karachi resident Kashif Hussain, was arrested on the spot.
