AIOU distributes laptops under PM’s youth scheme

Islamabad: Minister of Education Engineer Muhammad Balighur Rehman here on Thursday distributed laptops among the students of Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU), under the Prime Minister’s youth scheme.

Total laptops’ recipients from AIOU were around 2,500 of master, M.Phil and PhD level. While addressing the laptops’ distribution ceremony, the Minister hoped that the winning students will use them as a tool to overcome knowledge gap in their study, enabling themselves to serve the society.  

The ceremony was also addressed by the Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Shahid Siddique who assured that the University will continue its march towards a better future for their students, by providing them quality education, with best study environment. 

He hoped that the laptops will help them to undertake innovative and applied research work to serve the society.  He thanked the Higher Education Commission for giving necessary funding in doing the research work that is the University’s top priority.

Engineer Baligur Rehman appreciated Vice Chancellor and his team for bringing about qualitative improvement in the University’s overall working. He noted that a number of praise-worthy steps were taken during the last two years for the uplift of the University, enhancing academic ranking and building up its good image. 

The University, he said made valuable contribution in improving and expanding educational facilities for the people all over the country through distance learning system.

About the laptop scheme, the Minister said it was designed and being implemented through a transparent and impartial manner and purely on merit basis. There is no discretionary power with the government in this connection.

This scheme got so popular that it was even acclaimed internationally and many countries including India took this scheme as a model to facilitate their students. It also serves as ‘knowledge corridor’ providing accessibility to the students to do their research work.
