Prize distribution ceremony held at FJWU
Rawalpindi: Fatima Jinnah Women University organized a price distribution ceremony of Interdepartmental sports competition of 2015-16 here on Wednesday. The purpose of these competitions is to encourage the students to take part in extracurricular and healthy activities. The university provides the students with best facilities like latest sports equipment and professional coaches.
Chief guest of the ceremony was Fida Hussain (DG Sports, Higher Education Commission) and the guest of honour was Vice Chancellor FJWU, Professor Dr. Samina Amin Qadir. Also Prof. Dr. Naheed Zia Khan (Dean FASS) and Controller Examination/Chairperson Sports Committee Dr. Bushra Inyat Raja was there to attend the ceremony
Earlier during the opening of the ceremony Deputy Director Sports Ms. Tasawar briefed the audience about various sports events conducted during years and also highlighted the achievements of the students who presented University in National Sports Events as well as in University’s own sports competitions. Martial Arts performance of the girls was one of the highlights of the ceremony. Students displayed Kate and Breaking (Martial Arts Types) in effective manner. She also briefed the audience that FJWU had hosted All Pakistan Interuniversity Table Tennis competitions and next year FJWU would be hosting All Pakistan Interuniversity Volleyball Competitions.
Environmental sciences departments of FJWU got over all first position and Department of Economics and Department of Education got 2nd and 3rd positions respectively for the years 2015-16. Ayesha Aslam student from Department of Behavioural Sciences was declared over all best players of the year 2015-16.
While speaking at the opening ceremony, the Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Samina Amin Qadir appreciated the efforts of the Chairperson Sports Committee/Controller Examination, Dr. Bushra and all the members of sports office and committee for promotion of the sports in University and assured her full support to promote the culture of sports in the university. She further said sports and games are integral part on student’s life. Every student should study hard to be successful in competitive examinations. But, they should also play games and sports to enjoy the health and vigor of life. VC further said that, FJWU always tried to build a favorable climate for sports and for the students' participation in them.
Chief guest Fida Hussain (DG Sports Higher Education Commission) congratulated the vice chancellor and Chairperson Sports Committee of FJWU and said that such activities promoted positive thinking, sportsman spirit and discipline among students. Mr. Fida further said that, HEC always provides opportunities to all players specifically for women players, for physical and mental development through participation in sports by organizing different events all year round. The selection is through a transparent process, keeping in line with the high standards of university sports.
Later, chief guest DG Sports HEC Fida distributed prizes among the winners of the competitions. Larger number of faculty members of different departments, staff and students participated in price distribution ceremony.
