NAWABSHAH: Shaheed Benazirabad division has been without a commissioner for the last 15 months, and the deputy commissioner of Naushehro Feroze is officiating as commissioner of the division on an additional charge.
Hundreds of people of Sanghar, Naushehro Feroze and Shaheed Benazirabad districts are running from pillar to post to have their issues resolved.
The Shaheed Benazirabad division, comprising Sanghar, Naushehro Feroze and Shaheed Benazirabad districts, was formed on the directives of former president Asif Ali Zardari in response to a longstanding demand of the people.
A resolution to this affect was passed in the Sindh Assembly on July 1, 2014, and later a notification was issued. The then commissioner of Hyderabad, Jamal Mustafa Syed, had been given the additional charge of Shaheed Benazirabad.
He was later posted as commissioner of this division. Shakeel Mangnejo and Ghulam Mustafa Phull succeeded him, and after their transfers, Dr Wassim Shamshad, deputy commissioner of Naushehro Feroze, was accorded additional charge of commissioner of this division.
That was 15 months ago, and the division is waiting for a full-time commissioner since then. Meanwhile, the posts of additional commissioner-2, assistant commissioner (revenue) and assistant commissioner (general) are also lying vacant, causing hardships for thousands of people of the division.
