During the on-going dengue fever outbreak in the region, the three teaching hospitals in town have been accommodating more patients of dengue fever belonging to the federal capital as compared to the patients from Rawalpindi.

Data collected by ‘The News’ on Wednesday has revealed that nearly 59 per cent of all patients tested positive for dengue fever here at the allied hospitals were taken to the hospitals from the federal capital, while less than 37 per cent of total patients are residents of Rawalpindi. Slightly over four per cent of confirmed patients of dengue fever registered with the allied hospitals are residents of other districts of Punjab, AJK and KPK.

The data also shows that unlike the past, the population in the federal capital has been hit more severely by the dengue fever outbreak this year as compared to Rawalpindi.

According to details, the allied hospitals received a total of 2,987 confirmed patients of dengue fever this year till Wednesday morning of which as many as 1,750 are residents of Islamabad while only 1,104 are residents of Rawalpindi.

The allied hospitals received 42 confirmed patients of dengue fever from other districts of the Punjab province including Attock, Chakwal and Lahore, 41 confirmed patients from AJK, while 38 patients were taken to the allied hospitals from KPK and six from Karachi (Sindh).

It is also observed that majority of dengue fever patients belonging to the federal capital reported at Benazir Bhutto Hospital or Holy Family Hospital in town instead of reaching Polyclinic or Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences.

To date, over 1,920 patients have been tested positive from Islamabad of which well over 1,600 are residents of rural areas in the federal capital. Of these 1,920 plus patients, as many as 1,750 reached HFH, BBH or District Headquarters Hospital in Rawalpindi.
