Youth electrocuted in Shadbagh

A 20-year-old youth was electrocuted in the Shadbagh area on Thursday.

Victim Muhammad Waqar was repairing an electric motor when he suffered electric shocks. He was removed to hospital where he expired. Police have handed over the body to his family.

found dead: A 35-year-old man, unidentified so far, was found dead in the Ravi Road police area on Thursday.

Locals spotted the body lying near Subzimandi and informed police. Police have shifted the body to morgue.

Accidents: Total 610 road accidents were reported to the Provincial Monitoring Cell of Punjab Emergency Service, Rescue 1122, from all 36 districts of Punjab during the last 24 hours.

Twenty people were killed and 506 badly injured in the accidents.

The injured were shifted to hospitals. However, some 231 victims, who sustained minor injuries, were provided first aid by the emergency medical teams.

Two children injured: Two children were burnt when a fire erupted in two houses due to spark in high tension electricity wires at Madina Town, Harbanspura, on Thursday.

The high tension wires caught fire which engulfed two houses.

Firefighters put it out fire after hectic efforts. Two children suffered burns and were evacuated from the houses and admitted to hospital where their condition was stated to be precarious. 

masks distributed: City Traffic Police distributed 32,000 masks among the citizens as precautionary measure against smog in the provincial metropolis on Thursday.

The masks were distributed at the traffic awareness camp set up at Faisal Chowk, The Mall. Traffic Education Unit also distributed masks among the citizens, children and employees at Mozang, Gulberg, Lower Mall, Davis Road, Regal Chowk and Ichhra. 

Precautions: The Punjab Rescue director general has asked the people to avoid unnecessary travel during foggy or smoggy season, especially when the visibility is zero on the national highways and motorways.

Chairing a meeting of rescue officers in Provincial Monitoring Cell on Thursday, the DG was briefed by the monitoring cells officials on the current smog prevailing in Punjab capital. He was briefed that the smoggy season was further expected in the coming days due to which major road accidents might happen.

He asked the motorcyclists and the pedestrians to use masks and wet handkerchiefs to cover mouth.

He also advised them to use goggles to be safe from any respiratory problems during smog.

The DG expressed grief over a major road accident in Hafizabad and directed all the district emergency officers (DEOs) to educate citizens especially the commuters on adopting precautionary measures during the ongoing smoggy season.

He directed them to develop coordination with police and highways authorities to ensure safety.

He said the data of road traffic accidents showed that overall ratio of traffic accidents decreased during foggy season but major traffic accidents increased on the national highways due to low visibility.

He directed the officers to ensure provision of swift emergency services in case of any untoward incident in their relevant districts.

Awareness drive: Continuing its awareness drive, Albayrak Waste Management Company arranged a speech and art competition in Government High School for Boys, Baghbanpura. 

Officials said the students of the school took part in the competition.

Both categories focused on the theme, “Treating each Place like Home.” The Albayrak senior manager, Operations,  gave away prizes to the winners.
