White Cane Day
By our correspondents
October 16, 2016
The White Cane Safety Day is celebrated across the world on October 15. The day highlights the problems, needs and requirements of visually impaired people. In Pakistan, visually impaired people have been protesting for equal pay and work opportunities for quite a long time now.
A few commendable steps have been taken by the government to address the plight of blind people. The job quota for such people in the government sector has increased from two percent to three percent and the age limit for getting a job in the government sector has been extended by ten years. To honour the day, the people of the country should also pledge to contribute towards the welfare of such people.
