TIMERGARA: The Government Technical College in Lower Dir, which was constructed 11 years ago with a cost of Rs70 million, is yet to get functional.

The college was built in 2005 during Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal’s rule at Sadbar Killay in Samarbagh. Talking to The News, a member of the district council Maulana Muhammad Imran said millions of rupees had been spent on the construction of the college but it was yet to get functional even after 11 years.

Jamaat-e-Islami district Lower Dir chief and Member Provincial Assembly (MPA) from PK-95 Jandool, Aizazul Mulk Afkari, said the college had been constructed by JI chief Sairajul Haq during the MMA government in 2005 but was completely ignored by the Awami National Party government when JI boycotted the next general elections. He accused the ANP government of appointing non-locals against the class-IV positions in the college.

Aizazul Mulk said he had been in permanent contact with the relevant authorities for the last six months to open the college as soon as possible. “I have submitted a motion in the assembly to know why the college has been lying closed,” he added. Hamidul Haq and Inayatur Rahman, two students hailing from Samarbagh, also requested the authorities concerned to start classes in the college.
