NCHR chalks out strategic plan

Islamabad: National Commission on Human Rights (NCHR) has developed its strategic plan which will soon be implemented across the country.

The information was shared by Chairperson NCHR Ali Nazaw Chauhan in a meeting with the State Secretary for Foreign Office Germany Stephan Steinlein who visited NCHR office along with a delegation of German diplomats on Thursday.

Speaking on this occasion, Chairman NCHR expressed his views on long term relationship between Pak-Germany since 1959. He said that creation of NCHR is no less than a miracle. Anis Haroon, Member Sindh NCHR presented the overall picture of NCHR and briefly described the mandate, functions and progress report of the commission. She also discussed the challenges faced by the commission which are financial constraints and low aptitude of departments regarding the anonymity of the commission. She said that the commission has dealt with total 285 cases of human rights violations since May 2015. “Among the total number, 225 cases are in initial stages, 15 are in hearing, and decision has been taken in 18 cases,” she said. She said that Commission’s representatives have participated in 66 national and international conferences and seminars to raise awareness on human rights issues in Pakistan.

In the end the German state Secretary of the Foreign Office Stephan Steinlein cherished the creation of commission, and assured his intentions to support the Commission. He also praised the vital civil society of Pakistan.
