LAHORE
Lawyers of the Lahore Bar Association on Friday observed strike to condemn target killings of two lawyers in Peshawar.
The lawyers of the Lahore Bar Association (LBA) observed strike on the call of Pakistan Bar Council. The LBA lawyers appeared before the courts only in urgent nature cases and did not join regular proceedings. The lawyers demanded the government chalk out a comprehensive policy for the safety of lawyers. Earlier, Dr Farogh Naseem, vice-chairman of Pakistan Bar Council, in a statement had strongly condemned the target killings of the two lawyers in Peshawar and announced countrywide lawyers' strike. The PBC demanded of the government for immediate arrest of culprits and exemplary punishment to them.
adjourned: The Lahore High Court on Friday deferred hearing of a case against takeover of Royal Palm Golf & Country Club by Pakistan Railways. Railways’ counsel Salman Butt argued that the club management had defaulted on payments required under the lease document. He requested the court to vacate stay granted to the club against the railways’ action and also dismiss its petition. Justice Shams Mahmood Mirza adjourned hearing until October 3, asking the railways counsel to come with more arguments.
