Cops awarded for busting gang of infant-lifters

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General of Police (IGP) Nasir Khan Durrani on Monday awarded the policemen who busted a gang involved in kidnapping, trafficking and selling infants.

The Peshawar Police had received information about the gang involved in kidnapping of newborn babies from maternity homes in the city for selling them to couples who wanted to adopt children.

The police conducted a raid in Dabgari Garden and arrested a woman, who during interrogation revealed that she was a partner in a private maternity home. She also told the police about the sale of a newborn girl.

The police immediately conducted a raid and arrested five women and two men trying to sell the 40-day old newborn girl for Rs3 lakh. The baby was handed over to her parents, while the gang reportedly confessed involvement in the kidnapping of at least nine children.

Addressing the ceremony, Nasir Khan Durrani commended the professional commitment of the awardees by busting and arresting a gang involved in trafficking of infants. SP Cantt Kashif Zulfiqar, SHO East Cantonment Inspector Malik Habib, Head Constable Mir Azam, lady constable Shamim and constables Sajjad Sabir, Riffatullah and Ishaq received the awards.
