Clothes retailers raided over tax fraud
RAWALPINDI: Directorate of Intelligence and Investigation has conducted a raid on Pechaan Mall and Al Jannat Mall, leading clothes retailers in Rawalpindi, on account of information related to sales tax fraud.
A team headed by Deputy Director Junaid Murtaza and Assistant Director Mehdi Hassan raided and searched the outlets and godowns of the retailers in Sadar and commercial market area of Rawalpindi, impounding servers, computers, cheque books and other sales-related records.
The owners of Al Jannat Mall and Pechaan Mall got multiple registrations in sales tax to suppress sales. Initial scrutiny of impounded record reveals that they are involved in sales tax evasion amounting to millions of rupees.
Directorate of Intelligence and Investigation has started criminal proceedings against the owners of Pechaan Mall and Al Jannat Mall, as they were maintaining several undeclared and benami bank accounts along with sales tax evasion.
