Education Dept asked to change ‘outdated system’
PESHAWAR: The office-bearers of the National Education Council on Tuesday urged the provincial Education Department to change the “outdated examination system” of the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE), Peshawar, as the students and their parents lost confidence in it.
Speaking at a press conference here, chairman of the council, Nazar Hussain said that some students had submitted applications under the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Right to Information Act in BISE, asking the administration to provide a copy of their marked examination papers to them.
Flanked by president of All Private Schools Association Shahid Wali Khattak, Syed Khalid Shah and others, he said that instead of providing copies of the answer sheets, the board administration had challenged the act in the court.
He said provision of copies of the marked papers to students was the legal right of the students and creating any hurdle and using delaying tactics in providing the required information to students was violation of RTI act.
“Non-provision of copies of marked papers to students has raised concerns about the transparency of marking the papers and created doubts about use of unfair means,” he added. He said the administration of private educational institution had started providing copies of marked papers to parents of their students to ensure transparency and there would be no doubts in the minds of the parents about the internal examination process of these institutions.
They asked the chief minister and Education Department to take note of situation and provide the students their right under the RTI law.
