Seven more MQM offices razed
Karachi
Seven more offices of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) – all said to be illegally constructed structures – were demolished across the city on Monday, as authorities continued with the crackdown launched against the party after the August 22 diatribe by Altaf Hussain.
According to sources at the chief minister’s house, after yesterday’s operations in Malir, Landhi, Korangi and Gulshan-e-Iqbal, the total number of MQM offices razed over the past week now stands at 32.
The officials said that 178 unit offices and 22 sector offices of the MQM have been found to be constructed on occupied government land, and asserted that all the illegal structures would be gradually razed.
They reiterated that action was only being taken where offices had been built on amenity or other government owned plots, adding that most of the demolished structures were the ones known to be criminal sanctuaries and from where weapons caches had been found in the past. Officials have also confirmed that at least 218 of Muttahida’s sector and unit offices have been sealed, including its headquarters.
