FG-model schools merger withdrawn

The Federal Directorate of Education has withdrawn a notification on the merger of Islamabad's federal government schools with model colleges.

Last May, the FDE had issued a notification to merge four FG schools with model educational institutions to ease the burden of admission on the latter.

According to the notification, Junior Model FG School in G-6/4 was merged with Islamabad Model College for Boys (IMCB) G-6, Junior Model School F-6/3 with IMCG F-6, Junior Model I-9/1 with IMCB I-10 and Junior Model School I-10 with IMCG I-10.

However, the move didn't sit well with the FG school teachers, who threatened agitation against it.

Of late, state minister for Capital Administration and Development Division Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, whose division oversees FDE, stepped in and resolved the issue by promising the withdrawal of the FG school merger notification.

And now, the FDE acted accordingly by notifying that the FG schools merged with model schools would be reverted to the FG set-up.

Currently, two educational systems run side by side in the federal capital, including the model college/school one and the other the FG system.

Around 20 educational institutions work under the model college system and 382 schools under the FG system.
