Milk shop owner dead as robbers continue killings in city
Karachi
Street crimes continued in the city on Friday as the owner of a milk shop was gunned down by robbers for putting up resistance in the Al-Falah police limits.
According to police, Muhammad Sadiq, 40, was shot multiple times by two robbers at his Punjab Milk Shop situated in Al-Falah Society.
Though his employees took him to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, a tragic death could not be averted due to severe bullet injuries.
The incident came on the heels of Wednesday night’s fatal shooting of an army soldier who was shot dead when he intervened in an attempted robbery.
Police said two robbers had shot and wounded two brothers, Mahesh and Pawan Kumar, in a mugging bid near Lucky Star, Saddar. The soldier, who was in plainclothes, had intervened and managed to get hold of one suspect, who shot him at close range.
Earlier this month, on August 17, a man was shot dead by muggers in Baldia Town.
According to Saeedabad police officials, the victim – identified as Shafiullah, 30 – was passing through Baldia Town’s Gulshan-e-Ghazi area on his motorcycle when he was intercepted by the robbers.
Officials believed Shafiullah, a resident of the vicinity, had tried to reason with the muggers as he attempted to resist the robbery bid, on which the heartless criminals shot him at close range.
The shots left him critically injured and the robbers managed to make an easy getaway with his cash and other valuables. Though Shafiullah survived till reaching the Civil Hospital Karachi, his injuries proved too severe and he succumbed to the wounds during treatment.
Fatal shootings in mugging bids have been reported all throughout the year in the city and the past month of July saw at least three such incidents.
On July 29, two robbers had shot dead a Pakistan Army soldier, Shoaib, 24, during a mugging attempt in the Saudabad area.
Just five days prior to that, a 26-year-old man was shot and killed by robbers in the Mominabad police limits. On July 8, Naveed Abbas, 30, was shot dead by muggers in Sector 5/B, North Karachi.
