Education rat race

By our correspondents
August 24, 2016

This refers to the article, ‘The academic rat race’ (Aug 18) by Kamila Hayat. The learned writer has presented a full appraisal of education in the country. The O and level education system is successful in the world, and therefore countries are pursuing the systems. The education rat race is more prominent in the big cities where the affluent can comfortably bear the expenses of this education system. This system is also a springboard for getting immigration.

Most of the youth lives in small cities and villages where such facility is not easily available. Moreover, their parents do not have enough resources to send their children to English-medium schools. Children mostly join government schools and complete their education. It is heartening to note that English-medium schools with A level and O level syllabus are being opened up in small cities and remote areas. In the past, the government schools used to be models for education. Today, it is the new education system that is looked up to.
