NOWSHERA: Officials of the Jalozai Camp for displaced persons assembled a number of affected women on Thursday to meet Japanese Ambassador Hiroshi Inomata as they believed he was a woman, sources said.
Due to their unfamiliarity with the Japanese names, they mistook him for a woman. “We did not know that the ambassador was male and we were waiting for a woman ambassador,” an eyewitness quoted an official of the camp as saying.
He said the camp administrators were surprised to see the ambassador as they were expecting a female. The affected camp women were supposed to meet a female ambassador but this didn’t happen. Local Pakhtun traditions didn’t allow these women to interact with males and this realisation soon dawned on all those present.
Ambassador Hiroshi Inomata also turned to the assembled children and notables present there and talked to them.
