Religious violence
By our correspondents
July 31, 2016
On July 26, 2016 two incidents of violence occurred – one in India and one in Pakistan. In the Indian state of Madhya Pardesh two Muslim women were beaten up at a railway station on suspicion of carrying beef. A group of vigilantes slapped, kicked and punched the women brutally in front of a large crowd of people. The second incident took place in Pakistan, where a Hindu youth was killed as communal tensions rocked Sindh’s Ghotki district after an alleged blasphemy incident.
Religion is often used as a means to rally support for violence. Religious leaders have a prime obligation to present the true picture of religion which is totally against any such violence.
