Week-long Independence Day celebrations

Rawalpindi: The Punjab government has decided to arrange week-long celebrations with regard to the Independence Day to promote the message of peace and unity among the people especially students who are considered future builders of the nation.

According to the minutes of the meeting held in Lahore the local bodies, local administration and heads of schools and colleges would be directed to hold week-long celebrations from August 8-14 to celebrate the Independence Day with enthusiasm and dedication.

The draft stated "Week-long celebrations would be arranged from August 8-14 in which seminars, meetings, conferences, lectures, debates, declamation contests at different academic levels, inter-provincial exchange of visits of students, exhibition of books/articles, quiz competitions, Qirat, Naat Khwani, Mushairas and tableaus would be held to spread the message of hope and promote the moto of 'Faith, Unity and Discipline'."

The educational institutions would screen documentary films based on Pakistan Movement and also arrange other programmes like painting and photographic exhibitions, seminars, Mushaira and national songs.

Local leaders of the ruling party vowed that the Independence Day would be celebrated with enthusiasm, reflecting the national commitment to safeguard the country against any threat and rededication towards nation building as per the aspirations of the Founding Father of the nation.
