PESHAWAR: Corps Commander Peshawar, Lieutenant General Umar Ahmad Bukhari, held a one-on-one meeting with Chief Minister Sohail Afridi at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat on Friday, sources said.
The sources told Geo News that the overall law and order situation in the province came under discussion during the meeting. Measures to counter terrorism were reviewed as well, they added.
Development projects in the merged tribal districts were also discussed . According to sources, the corps commander said that the Pakistan Army and law enforcement agencies were rendering great sacrifices for the restoration of peace in the province.
The sources quoted the chief minister as saying that all stakeholders must be taken into confidence in efforts to maintain peace. He stressed the need for a joint strategy to effectively combat terrorism.
It was learnt that the chief minister convened a session of the Apex Committee a day after the meeting. It may be mentioned here that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf had announced on October 8 the nomination of Sohail Afridi as its candidate for the KP chief minister’s post, replacing Ali Amin Gandapur.
