MINGORA: A Levies man embraced martyrdom when unidentified gunmen opened fire on the anti- polio vaccination team in the Anzargi Dag area of Matta tehsil in Swat on Tuesday.

Police officials said the assailants targeted Levies Constable Abdul Kabir, who was providing security to the anti- polio team during the second day of the national anti-polio campaign, martyring him on the spot.

Upon receiving information about the incident, the District Police Officer (DPO), Swat, Muhammad Umar Khan, along with officials from the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) and other police officers, reached the scene. The police, Pakistan Army and CTD personnel launched a joint search operation in Anzargi and surrounding areas to track down the assailants after the attack.

The DPO vowed that law-enforcement agencies were determined to bring the perpetrators to justice.
