No let-up in dengue spike
Islamabad/Rawalpindi: The federal capital recorded 30 new dengue cases in the last 24 hours, with inspection teams finding mosquito larvae at 1,804 sites across the city.
The figures were shared during a dengue review meeting chaired by the deputy commissioner, who ordered strict daily monitoring and warned that any negligence would be dealt with firmly.
Of the new cases, 11 were from rural areas and 19 from urban localities, reflecting the spread across both communities. Officials also noted that the fresh cases add to those already admitted to hospitals, further straining health facilities.
During the meeting, health officials and medical experts discussed measures to curb the virus, stressing coordinated planning and regular field inspections.
Meanwhile, data collected by ‘The News’ has revealed that on Friday morning, as many as 61 confirmed patients of dengue belonging to Rawalpindi district were undergoing treatment at various healthcare facilities. In the last 24 hours, as many as 25 individuals from the district have tested positive for the infection.
The number of patients being tested positive for dengue in this region of the country is on the rise however it is encouraging that the infection has so far claimed no life from the region.
According to health experts, the continuous increase in the number of confirmed patients of dengue being reported from the district is making the situation more alarming particularly because the existing weather conditions in the region are the most suitable for dengue fever transmission.
The confirmed cases of dengue fever are being reported from scattered areas of the district which is more alarming according to health experts as even a single confirmed case from a locality proves the existence of ‘aedes aegypti’, the vector that causes dengue fever in the area.
