Restoration of peace in Bajaur Joint efforts pledged

KHAR: Political leaders and tribal elders in a jirga on Tuesday agreed to work together for the restoration of lasting peace in Bajaur and elsewhere in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The jirga took place at the residence of former lawmaker Akhunzada Chattan and attended by leaders of all political parties, lawmakers and tribal elders.Talking to reporters after the jirga, Akhunzada Chattan said that earlier there was a perception of disunity among Bajaur’s elders and jirga members, but today’s gathering had dispelled that notion completely.

He announced that an executive committee had been formed to draft a code of conduct for future jirgas, ensuring that no misunderstandings arose and no impression of division was created.

The committee, he added, would meet daily, monitor the ongoing operation, and observe the prevailing situation. He stressed that any decisions taken by the committee would have the backing of the people.Chattan expressed confidence that if unity continued, not only Bajaur but the entire province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa would stand with them.
