Relief, rehab efforts underway in flood-hit Shangla

ALPURI: After devastating floods and landslides wreaked havoc across Shangla district, restoration and relief activities are in full swing as operations continued in the worst-hit areas on Thursday.

Officials confirmed that compensation has been paid to families of those who lost their lives, while efforts to restore electricity and clear blocked roads are ongoing. Rescue teams are still searching for missing persons in various parts of Puran. The Communication and Works Department, Shangla, has also floated a tender worth Rs210 million for rehabilitation projects.

Agricultural lands, orchards and standing crops have suffered massive destruction, further compounding the loss for local communities. Also, some sections of the public have expressed reservations over the official statistics released regarding the damages.

Separately, PTI senior leader and former provincial minister Shaukat Yousafzai met with KP Finance Adviser Muzzammil Aslam to review the situation in Shangla, Buner. He praised the provincial govt, district administration for their timely response.
