JUI leaders seek end to operation in Bajaur
KHAR: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUIF) local leaders on Wednesday urged the government to halt the ongoing military operation in Mamond tehsil in Bajaur within three days and ensure the dignified return of displaced families to their homes.
Addressing a press conference at the Bajaur Press Club, JUI district chief and former Senator Maulana Abdul Rasheed and other party leaders criticised the operation’s impact on the local population.
Maulana Abdul Rasheed said reports of serious irregularities had emerged in the distribution of food and relief supplies to the affected families. He urged the provincial government to take immediate notice, launch an inquiry, and hold those responsible accountable.
He said that hundreds of displaced persons were taking shelter not only in government schools but also in private homes and local guest houses (hujras). However, he alleged that the district administration had unfairly excluded many of them from the official lists of affected families.
The JUI leader warned that the ongoing operation had forced the closure of educational institutions, jeopardizing students’ futures, while business activities across the district had also come to a complete halt.
