‘Lack of utilities hampering housing sector in Karachi’
Lack of basic utilities such as water, electricity and gas has been badly hampering the housing sector in Karachi as thousands of new housing societies and settlements are uninhabited due to this reason, said Pasban Democratic Party (PDP) Chairman Altaf Shakoor on Sunday.
He lamented that billions of rupees of citizens were invested in new housing societies that were non-functional due to lack of basic facilities. He said hundreds of thousands of houses and flats were fully constructed in these new housing societies and settlements but people could not live in them because they had no water, electricity and gas connections.
He pointed out that such new settlements were mostly situated in suburban areas of the megacity like Gadap, Hawkesbay, Northern Bypass, Super Highway and Surjani Town.
