ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court Thursday extended stay order against converting the 1,395 acre of land of National Agricultural Research Council (NARC) into a housing society till the hearing of the case.
The land located in the area of Chak Shahzad was given to the National Agriculture Research Council on a 30-year lease for agriculture research in 1975. Since the lease period expired in 2005, the CDA intends to convert the land into a housing society. The division bench comprising Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali and Justice Tariq Pervaiz heard the suo motu notice case.
During the course of proceedings, the counsel for the CDA apprised the court that the authority was awaiting government’s decision on the housing scheme on the abovementioned land.He said the CDA had already referred its suggestions to Prime Minister Secretariat.
Justice Tariq Pervaiz observed that the parliamentary committee appreciated the research work done by the NARC in the field of agri sector. Later, hearing of the case was adjourned to a date in office.
