Qandeel’s murder continues to haunt her admirers
LAHORE: Who killed Qandeel Baloch is the question which will continue to haunt many of her admirers and lovers of humanity for a very long time till her memories fade away like thousands of other such female victims of so-called ‘honour” syndrome’.
Qandeel Baloch shot to fame due to her controversial statements in the media and her outspoken attitude. She never hid her intentions and never defended her acts, no matter how agitating they may be to some in the society.
Her most famous alleged encounter with a religious figure, which was blown out of proportions on the electronic, print and social media, earned her a great fame.
However, all said and done, in Qandeel’s life’s the last press conference, held at the Lahore Press Club in Ramazan, she cried out loud for help to the top notches in the country, knocked at the doors of the Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar, DG FIA and the IG Police, Islamabad, to provide her protection since she was receiving life threats. Some quarters in the media, assuming the role of an inquisitor and a prosecutor, wasted no time in the character assassination of the poor girl, who finally paid her dues by her life.
Qandeel Baloch was very outspoken and would not shy away from questions referred to some of her most famous flicks. In that crowded press conference in the Lahore Press Club, to a query about her controversial acts, she said “I have nothing to hide, whatever I do, I do in the open and not behind the closed doors like those hypocrites”. She added to the same question’s reply that: “I have come up in life through a very hard way”.
Now, when Qadeel Baloch is gone forever, we should ask ourselves this burning question that did she deserve to die like this? Was her crime so big and out of the confines of all moral and ethical norms that could not be pardoned except sniffing out her life? Do we not need to reestablish a much-needed code of conduct in every segment of society, including electronic, print and social media, which made her the “Controversy Queen” overnight and sensationalised the life of an otherwise ‘mediocre’ model & social media celebrity into the talk of the country.
