As street crimes continue unabated in the city, despite a quantitative decrease in frequency, a man was shot dead by muggers in the Zaman Town police limits on Sunday evening.

According to police officials, the victim – identified as Rana Shahid, 45 –
was killed for trying to resist a mugging bid. As per details, the victim was a resident of 100 Quarters and was
returning home from a graveyard in Korangi No 2 ½ when he was intercepted by the robbers.

Zaman Town SHO Shahjehan Lashari said Shahid had tried to resist the mugging bid and attempted to overpower the robbers, on which the heartless criminals shot him at close range.

The shots left him critically injured and the robbers managed to make an easy getaway with his cash and other valuables.

Though Naveed survived till reaching the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), his injuries – which included a shot to the chest – proved too much to handle and he succumbed to the wounds during treatment.

The investigators had registered a report and efforts were underway to track down the killers. However, there had been no headway in identifying or tracking down the culprits, though the police claimed that serious efforts were being made in this regard.
