Maryam says rising public expectations demand better performance
LAHORE: Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz chaired a special meeting for a detailed briefing on ‘Suthra’ (Clean) Punjab Programme.
“As people’s expectations increase, performance should also increase,” said CM Maryam Nawaz adding “Safe City cameras should be used to monitor cleanliness situation across Punjab.” She highlighted, “Development agencies from World Bank, Europe and other countries have expressed interest in investing in Suthra Punjab Programme.”
The CM said, “Suthra Punjab Programme is successfully underway, complaints about cleanliness will be redressed.” She underscored, “A contractor who does not perform his work properly, should be fired.”
She was briefed by the authorities concerned on e-invoice and e-billing of sanitation fee for the first time under Suthra Punjab Programme. She was also apprised on vehicle trip counting system, and vehicle tracking management system, and agreed to create 136 more waste disposal points across Punjab.
Separately, Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz, in her message on the World Head and Neck Cancer Day, emphasised the critical importance of public awareness, prevention, and compassion in the fight against this deadly disease. She highlighted that smoking, as well as the use of gutka, paan, alcohol and poor lifestyle choices, are among the leading causes of head and neck cancer.
The CM shared that Pakistan’s first dedicated cancer treatment facility — the Nawaz Sharif Institute of Cancer — is under rapid construction. “Alhamdulillah, work is progressing swiftly. The Nawaz Sharif Institute of Cancer will soon become a ray of hope for patients not only from Punjab but also from across the country,” she stated.
Maryam further assured that no cancer patient, regardless of the stage of their illness, will be denied treatment at the institute.
Meanwhile, CM Maryam Nawaz expressed a deep sense of sorrow over the loss of precious human lives in a bus accident on M2 Motorway near Dhok Sial, district Chakwal.
She offered condolences and extended her heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved families. She also prayed for speedy recovery of the injured passengers.
Meanwhile, in her message on the martyrdom anniversary of Captain Sarwar Shaheed, she said he was the first recipient of Nishan-e-Haider and a symbol of courage and bravery for Pakistan. “Martyrdom of Captain Muhammad Sarwar on July 27, 1948 is the life of nation. Captain Sarwar Shaheed proved that love for homeland is part of faith, and defending the homeland is no less than worship.”
