RAWALPINDI: Special Judge Central Shahrukh Arjumand adjourned the hearing of the Toshakhana II case against former PTI chairman and his wife Bushra Bibi until July 29 without taking any action. On Friday, PTI founder’s lawyer Qausin Mufti did not appear in court during the hearing. On this occasion, the court waited for the lawyer till 10:30am. During this, the court summoned PTI founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi and after waiting for three and a half hours, the judge and the prosecution team left the Adiala jail. On this occasion, Federal Prosecutor Zulfiqar Abbas Naqvi told the media that the hearing of the case had been adjourned till July 29 because the lawyers of the accused did not appear in court. Later, the former chairman’s sister Aleema Khan said that she had not allowed the lawyer to enter the jail and stopped him at the gate. She said the lawyer could only enter if the chairman’s family, PTI leaders Ali Zafar and Raja Salman Akram were also allowed inside. “We stood outside the jail since 11 am. Some 8 to 9 people from the prosecution went inside. But how can a lawyer join the hearing without his team? We have been outside the jail for 4 hours.”
She said that how will this be a fair trial when the lawyers will not be allowed inside. Aleema said: “The judge said let the family and lawyers come inside. Now you can see the effects of the 26th Amendment. The judges’ orders are being ignored. The judges are also helpless because of the former chairman. The justice system and the judges have become helpless. This is why the former chairman said let’s start a movement.” Aleema said his brother is afraid that the movement may not go ahead. “The former chairman said, ‘Let the people stand up for their rights. PTI workers are being given arbitrary punishments.”
Aleema said there are some who are scared. “My lawyers told me that we have to take your bail. You will be arrested. But we are not afraid of scared people. They are afraid that not a single word of the former chairman comes out.” Aleema said the former chairman is repeatedly demanding CCTV footage of the May 9 incidents. “The people will now have to come out on their own for their freedom. We should not wait that if the founder comes out, then the movement will go ahead. The party has given a plan of action. We have to leave on August 5th. The plan is in place.”
