Foreign affairs ministries all over the world formulate policies by considering several parameters such as the economy, global trends and geo-political situation. However, in Pakistan, politicians holding portfolios in unrelated fields often express their personal opinions on foreign affairs to the local and foreign media. These opinions may or may not align with the position taken by the foreign ministry.
Besides creating a contradictory scenario, such personal views may jeopardise the interests of the state. The government should ensure that statements pertaining to foreign affairs are made only by the concerned ministry and other officials working in the field.
