PESHAWAR: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Wednesday filed a petition in the Peshawar High Court (PHC) challenging the allocation of reserved seats in the assemblies, claiming it was deprived of its rightful share through alleged fraud and misrepresentation.
The petition argued that PTI was sidelined in the distribution of reserved seats despite its representation in the national and provincial assemblies.
The petition, filed by PTI MNA Ali Asghar, called for the annulment of the March 2024 decision by the PHC on the reserved seats, as well as the subsequent review verdict by the Supreme Court of Pakistan dated June 27, 2025.
The petitioner requested the court to allow PTI to present its case and to declare the earlier rulings null and void.
Ali Asghar contended that PTI was not heard during the allocation process and was not even made a party to the case. No notices were issued to the party, and the reserved seats were instead distributed among other political parties.
The petition claimed that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) deliberately and fraudulently deprived PTI of its share, arguing that the justification used — that PTI was not a parliamentary party — was baseless and incorrect. The petitioner urged the court to reverse the previous decisions and issue a notification declaring him a PTI MNA on a reserved seat. The petitioner sought to restore PTI’s representation on 12 reserved seats and requested the issuance of notifications recognizing PTI’s nominees as elected representatives.
