JI demands compensation for fire-affected shopkeepers
Karachi Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) emir Monem Zafar has visited shopkeepers affected by fires at Millennium Mall and Amir Electronics Market and demanded immediate compensation for them.
He demanded of the Pakistan Peoples Party government in Sindh and the KMC to provide the much needed help so the victims could restore their businesses. Owners of affected shops said the JI was only the party whose representative visited the site and met them. The JI leader expressed his grave concern over the Sindh government's “policy to give the cold shoulder” to the affected people.
He said some shopkeepers, including brave women, attempted to save some of their goods while staking their own lives, but the fire brigade and rescuers couldn't respond on time as usual.
Earlier, Electronic Market Association head Rizwan Irfan, traders leader Aslam Khan, Habib Patel and others briefed the JI leader about the blazes and the losses that resulted from them. Zafar assured the traders of full cooperation on part of the JI.
