‘Cleanliness collective duty of all citizens’

Rawalpindi:In-charge of the ‘Suthra Punjab’ Programme, Asim Mehmood, has stated that cleanliness is not just the responsibility of the government or institutions, but a collective duty of all citizens.

To ensure a clean and healthy environment, it is essential for the public to play a positive role. He emphasised that waste bins should be installed outside shops so that the waste generated from commercial activities can be collected in an organised manner, instead of being dumped on streets, markets, and roads, says a press release.

The staff of Rawalpindi Waste Management Company (RWMC) will clean those garbage bins during the second shift, which will further improve the overall cleanliness of the city. These views were expressed during a detailed visit to Rawalpindi city, conducted in light of the special directives of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif.

On this occasion, CEO of Rawalpindi Waste Management Company Rana Sajid Safdar, Acting Senior Manager Operations Bilal Niazi, Manager Operations Urban Amir Naik, Senior Manager MIS Ahsan Azmat Malik, and Senior Manager Communication Nasir Mehmood were also present.

Asim Mahmood visited various areas including Murree Road, Committee Chowk, Liaquat Road, Gawalmandi Bridge, Fawara Chowk, Raja Bazaar, Mochi Bazaar, Bani Chowk, and others, where he personally inspected the cleanliness situation and obtained direct feedback from citizens. The residents appreciated the improved cleanliness arrangements and termed the ‘Suthra Punjab Programme’ a positive and effective initiative.

Particularly in view of Eidul Azha, citizens highly praised RWMC for the timely and efficient disposal of animal waste and remains. The in-charge of the ‘Suthra Punjab’ Programme expressed satisfaction over the cleanliness in the city and the public feedback, and commended the performance of RWMC’s sanitation staff.

During his visit, Asim Mehmood also met with representatives of the trader community and urged them to fully cooperate with RWMC staff in order to further improve the cleanliness system.

He said that the RWMC is implementing a comprehensive cleanliness plan aimed at providing a clean, green, and pleasant environment in the city. Traders also acknowledged the improvement in the cleanliness of the city and markets, stating that workers clean the markets in two shifts, which has significantly improved the standard of cleanliness. They assured their full cooperation for maintaining the city’s cleanliness. Earlier, the In-charge of the ‘Suthra’ Punjab Programme also visited the RWMC Control Room, where he was given a detailed briefing.
