LAHORE:Punjab Traffic Police is set for an administrative restructuring aimed at enhancing traffic management and enforcement across the province. The department has submitted a proposal to Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz outlining a plan to divide the traffic police into three specialised wings.
According to sources, the new structure will introduce three distinct roles within the traffic police: Enforcement Officers, Facilitators, and Regulators. This division is designed to streamline operations and improve efficiency in managing traffic flow and law enforcement.
Under the proposed system, Safe City cameras will be utilised extensively to issue traffic fines automatically in areas equipped with surveillance. In locations lacking camera coverage, Enforcement Officers will be responsible for issuing challans (traffic tickets) manually. Facilitators and Regulators will play proactive roles in maintaining smooth traffic movement and public convenience.
